Camp Sunshine

Camp Sunshine is a New England District Service Project that focuses on providing respite, support, hope, and joy for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families.

What is Camp Sunshine?

Camp Sunshine is a year-round camp that is located in Casco, Maine near Sebago Lake. This camp began in 1983 when Dr. Larry Gould and Anna Gould were inspired to help children with cancer. The first pilot camp began in June of 1984 with 43 children and their families.

The camp continued to grow and offer more sessions during the spring and fall months. In 2001, Camp Sunshine officially opened a year-round facility on 24 acres of land. Currently, Camp Sunshine holds events for 750 families (or 3,000 family members annually). Thus, Camp Sunshine has helped more than 43,500 family members in total, from 23 countries! Camp Sunshine helps children with cancer, hematologic conditions, renal disease, systemic lupus, organ transplants, and many others.

At the camp, children and their families are able to participate in recreational activities to focus on relaxation, relationship building, and support. There is also 24 hour medical and psychological support. Due to the generous donations of time and money, Camp Sunshine is free of charge for all families.
